About Jen


Jen and Preston Middleton of Next Wave Entertainment, 2012Jen’s interest in music and the biz began in early childhood. She began a formal study of music at age 11. Already possessing a vast musical repertoire at age 20, she began to incorporate a comprehensive knowledge of audio and acoustics into her career. She earned her AAS in Audio Engineering (graduated with highest honors) and expanded her musical focus to include the recording and production fields. After honing her engineering and production skills she continued her academic pursuits and earned a BA in Liberal Arts that included a focus area in music business and graduated summa cum laude from DePaul University in Chicago.

Jen’s career has expanded to include expertise in: publishing marketing, promotion, branding, merchandising and distribution. She also specializes in Internet Marketing and Social Networking for Musicians and utilizes the hottest digital services to enhance musical careers.

Jen currently teaches music business courses at Houston Community College, Spring Branch Campus. These courses include: Survey of Music Business (a broad, comprehensive study of the music industry), Marketing and Promotion for Musicians, and Social Networking and Internet Marketing for Musicians.  She also serves as faculty advisor for MEISA (Music Entertainment Industry Student Association) at Spring Branch. MEISA hosts two conferences and music showcases each year that feature the best talent and unprecedented opportunities for MEISA members to network with music industry executives.

Jen’s expertise covers a vast array of styles: Pop, Urban, Rock, R&B, Blues, Country, Gospel, Classical, Jazz, Latin, Middle Eastern, African, Turkish, and Romani (Gypsy) styles. Jen has spent the most recent 4 years expanding her percussion/rhythm repertoire through intense studies in Middle Eastern, African and Turkish music and meter. Jen’s private and academic music instruction and performance experience includes: flute, guitar, clarinet, piano, doumbek, riqq, zills, didgeridoo, vocals, theory, composition and ear training and sight-singing.
